Penn requires freshman applicants to submit either:
- the SAT with Writing and two SAT Subject Tests
No preference is given to either test, however Penn requires applicants to submit their entire testing history. If applicants have taken both the SAT and the ACT, they must submit their testing history from both exams. Penn will pay attention to the highest scores from any test when reviewing a candidate's application, but having the complete testing profile provides deeper insight.
Official scores must be sent directly to the University of Pennsylvania. Do not wait until after you receive your scores to send us the results. Please reference the application deadlines.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that official score reports are released and submitted to the University of Pennsylvania for all tests taken.
Penn's testing code:
Students whose native language is not English should take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by the Educational Testing Service. Results should be forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions.
